Hair Box Play is a project using puppetry as a vehicle to explore states of suspended animation. The puppet, interchangeably object and subject, occupies a generative gray zone for thinking about stillness and movement. Both mundane and preternatural, enchanting and repulsive, it is animated and brought to life by outside forces while also appearing to live of its own accord - until it is inevitably deactivated. But what are the thresholds of being and feeling animated? How much is too much animation? And how much is too little? “Hair Box Play” tells stories of characters crossing the point where animation meets exhaustion, where excitement engenders retreat."Hair Box Play" is conceived and performed by Sean Wehle, a former art historian and current fiction writer.
